WHAT DROVE TODAY
There was no clear domestic driver for today's modest gilt moves. The UK economic calendar was light, with only a low-impact CBI Distributive Trades release (Actual: -54 vs Forecast: -41, Previous: -46) and a conventional gilt auction at 4.06% (previous: 4.42%). Internationally, US data showed GDP growth (Actual: 2.10% vs Forecast: 1.60%) and core PCE inflation in line with expectations (0.30% MoM), but these had limited direct impact on UK rates. News flow was dominated by global equity and commodity market themes rather than UK-specific developments.
WHAT THIS MEANS
- → PWLB rates ended the day slightly lower or unchanged across most maturities.
- → Borrowing costs for local authorities remain near recent levels, with no material shift in funding conditions.
- → The gilt curve saw a mild steepening, but overall volatility was limited.
NEXT ON THE DIARY
- → Monday 09:30 — BoE Consumer Credit (MEDIUM), Mortgage Lending (MEDIUM), Mortgage Approvals (MEDIUM), M4 Money Supply (LOW)
Overall, a subdued session for UK rates with little movement in borrowing costs and no major domestic catalysts.
